About Me

My name is Kelly. I’m 31, I don’t have a job, and I recently moved back in with my dad.

In October 2010, Facebook reunited me with an old college flame.  In November, he asked me to marry him, and in December we secretly tied the knot in front of a judge in Chicago.  Shortly thereafter, my new husband deployed to Afghanistan.  Right around Thanksgiving 2011, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Everyone was concerned about my lack of health insurance, as I had literally quit my job the day before. Well, let’s just say that if you run off and secretly get married, wait until you get really sick to go public with your nuptials. The relief that you have medical coverage seems to cancel out the shock that you’ve been lying to everyone about your marital status for an entire year.

I’m active. I snowboard and travel and do trapeze. I’m anything but sedentary. Cancer isn’t for me, and I don’t plan on having it long.

This is my story.

I am so excited to have found you!,!! I have stage 4B adenosquamous carcinoma of the cervix and I have not been able to find anyone who has been told the same things you have been told…. It’s not curable. No one seems to understand what this is like. I have started doing things I wanted to do, but been afraid to do…. Playing piano, running, lifting weights….you name it. Once again, I am so thankful to have found you. This changes your life forever and it’s really hard to explain it to someone who hasn’t been there.
Please feel free to contact me anytime!

After your appearance on national TV, I imagine you are gunna get far too many messages to read, but I’m throwing mine out there anyway. I am one year uterine cancer free on Sept. 14. Mine started in my cervix. It (the cancer) was removed via conization but the doctors didn’t test further than my cervix. Three months later, I went for a check up. Just like you, I just knew it wasnt going to be good news. I was right. I had uterine cancer. Because of where it was located chances of it spreading to the bladder increased with every minute. At 31 years old, I had to have a hysterectomy. We had already been blessed with two children, so I refused to be ungrateful. But I’d be lying if I said I don’t get down sometimes. But you….! So inspiring! God’s plan is already made. I pray your path includes remission. I pray your path includes keeping your fighting spirit high. Good bless you.

  6. I saw you on the Jeff Probst Show. You are a beautiful woman in every sense of the word. I really identify with your views on relationships. I was diagnosed with MS and declined rather quickly experiencing changes and limitations. Most of my friends drifted away. Others would not share things with me. I was treated differently just like you said that you were. They would apologize for complaining about their colds, sinus, aches and pains…I kept telling them that it wasn’t a competition. Though I have my issues and struggles I am stable and living my life to help battle MS. Your story inspires me more. It lets me know I am not alone and that others experience what I have. Most of all, I’m going to enjoy life no matter what hand I’m dealt. All In!
    Live, Love & Laugh,
    Jim

Kelly, you are such an inspiration! Please look into “Essiac” and “bloodroot”. These are not your mainstream medical approach to cancer, but they do work. We need you in this world for as long as is possible!

I’ve read your blog, but I haven’t seen a post for a while. I hope you are doing well and that you’re physically, spiritually, and mentally recovering from all you’ve been going through. I heard you were recently on the Jeff Probst Show and I look forward to seeing the episode! You are such an inspiration to just lay it out there – the good, the bad, and the ugly. You manage to stay positive throughout such extremely difficult circumstances, and have a playful grace with words. I wish you nothing but blessings, love, and fulfillment. You don’t know me, but please know that I am praying for you and your husband. God bless you!

i have stage IV breast cancer and it was good to see you on the jeff probst show with such a positive attitude. i’ve used up all my noninvasive hormonal treatments and know chemo is looming. i wore scarves when i did my chemo with my first encounter with cancer and after seeing you think i’ll forgo the scraves and go with a nude head. i work for apple computer and with customers but know apple will support my in whatever i choose. i kind of look at it as a badge of courage.

I saw you on the jeff probst show and have to say, you really touched me. In April of 2011, I was too diagnosed with cervical cancer. I was 29 at the time and was trying to conceive a child. As with another one of the people who commented I did already have two beautiful boys, but I was ready to try for a baby girl. The doctor said my cancer was aggressive, but it was still early and thought they could get it all with a radical hysterectomy. I knew as a mom and wife, I did not really have a choice in whether to have the hysterectomy or not-again I did not want to be greedy, but I wanted another baby. In the end, I had the hysterectomy and they removed tons of lymph nodes and discovered that they had got it all removed and I was now cancer free. I continue to go to dr every 3 months and so far so good. I wish you the best and hope there is a miracle out there for you!! You seem like an amazing and positive person, and you are an inspiration to everyone!!!

    Dear Kelly,
I just saw your story and felt compelled to write. Your voice is so positive and you are Sunny! I just passed my 6 year checkup for breast cancer. I can relate to living each day to the fullest and take nothing for granted. I tell family and friends I love them, I am honest with my feelings and I take time to breathe deep.

    I will pray for you.

P.s. I’m 67 and I know what hot flashes are. LoL

Hi Kelly. I am not usually home in the daytime, but as luck would have it, I have been down with a minor hand injury from work and have seen you both times on the Jeff Probst show. I am Marcia Almeida and I am 53 and a breast cancer survivor. I have started praying for your healing and I know you will get through this. Like my friend Joel Osteen says it doesn’t matter what the medical reports and the doctors say…God has the final word. I’m passing on the prayers and for anyone else out there, please feel free to grab on and pray with me. Love you, love your heart, and we’re all here with you now Darling!

Hi Kelly, I hope you are doing well. I just went to my doctor today and it appears my cervical cancer has shrunk down. He cant guarantee me it is gone until he can do a pet or cat scan until december. I want to be like you and have that positive great attitude. Live life to the fullest and keep being who you are cause were gonna beat this and if we stick together we can do it. Take care and keep smiling.

  14. Hi Kelly,
I saw you on the show too and your beauty inside and out is so admirable !!
Your positive attitude is so amazing, and you prove so much to everyone what life is all about !! You light up when you talk and I can see that you mean what you say and that’s even more amazing !!
You have an amazing aura about you that is so amazing to see, and I know your story has touched so many people, because it defiantly has to me.
I think you are a remarkable woman, and cannot wait to see and hear more about you and how you are doing.
I wish you all the best, and wanted you to know that you are amazing, inspirational, beautiful, and so motivational !!! Kerri

  15. Hi Kelly,
Unfortunately I didn’t get to see you on the show. I just found you. I also have a Urostomy. I didn’t get mine because of cancer. I had a severely painful bladder disease called Interstitial Cystitis. I decided after 20 years that it was time to do something drastic. The only thing that was left to do. Bye, bye bladder!!

I so appreciate your attitude and outlook on life. You are an inspiration!! What a beautiful woman you are!! You have been through a lot and I am glad to see that it hasn’t broken your spirit.

May I ask where you live? I live in Alabama. I am 42. I don’t work either. I am married and have 2 grown kids. One just turned 22 and the other will be 18 next month. My husband and I have been married for almost 23 years.

    God bless,
    Kristi

    Hi Kelly,
I just watched your most recent appearance on the Jeff Probst Show. I had not seen the previous segments so I was unfamiliar with your story. I am deeply moved by you and your story. I commend you for being so open throughout your journey. It’s hard for me to find the correct word, but it’s truly amazing to see someone who has gone through so much come back & relay what has occurred with such nonchalance. You had such a “light” way about you and your radiant personality glowed. You had the biggest smile on your face (and why shouldn’t you) and proved that you didn’t let it change you and showed a tremendous amount of courage. You are such an amazing inspiration. Watching you today not only made me think about the true meaning of life, but it’s people like you who make me want to be a better person. You are far beyond a remarkable woman and I wish you nothing but the best as you continue your road to recovery. You have truly touched my heart.

    Best Wishes,
    Christina xoxo

    Hi Kelly
i was diagnosed with stage 3 uterine cancer in feb 2013, i had to have a full hystoria and now i am having to do 6 chemo treatments and then some radiation. I think what you have done with going on tv is awesome, its nice to read about what your dealing with, and to see that i am not the only person who feels what you feel. i am glad to hear your cancer free as of now and i hope and pray you stay that way. you give me hope that there is an end to all of that and it can be good

  18. Hey Kelly, I just saw you today on the Jeff Probst Show for the first time. Its inspiring to see you and your blog and the trials that you have been through. I believe that God is using you to inspire others because of your attitude towards life and the things that you are dealing with. The disease does not define who you are or who you will be! The Lord be with you and His Blessings on your life!
